As the capital of Scotland Edinburgh has plenty to offers its wealth of visitors. What’s more getting to Edinburgh is so easy, not only is there the sleeper option on the train making the long journey from southern England drift by, but there are lots of competitive low cost airlines offering cheap flights from various destinations around the UK.
Once there you can check into an affordable bed and breakfast, or one of the many new stylish boutique hotels. World famous sites are then on the agenda in the form of the stunning Edinburgh castle, Palace of Holyroodhouse and Arthur’s seat, as well as the excellent shopping facilities and first class restaurants. Even the small back streets are a wonderful mass of elegant Georgian buildings that give the city a graceful air.
The stroll along the famous Royal Mile takes you past many of the great city sites and gives you a real flavour of the history of the place. Whilst newly developed areas such as Leith, set on the waterfront offer a trendy cosmopolitan view of the city, giving Edinburgh a wide appeal for all ages and interests.
The city also has a world-renowned reputation for hosting the annual Edinburgh Festival, which attracts a huge amount of artist talent and visitors to the area. Every August sees the city transform itself into a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week party venue. With a combination of the Fringe, the Book Festival and the Film Festival, you can expect an action packed visit during this time. The other major event hosted here is the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, another favourite with visitors.
